Au pays de Courbet – dans la belle cité d’Ornans, proche de la célèbre Source de la Loue, face à la demeure où le peintre vit le jour le 10 juin 1819 au bord de la rivière – l’Institut Gustave Courbet, fidèle à l’esprit qui a présidé à sa création, poursuit ses actions de promotion du patrimoine artistique et culturel du maître du Réalisme.

 L’Institut Courbet est l’héritier de l’association des amis de Courbet, créée en 1938 par le peintre comtois Robert Fernier – qui acquit la Maison natale et y ouvrit le Musée ne 1969, qu’il donna au département du Doubs à la disparition de son fondateur en 1977 pour qu’en soit assurée la pérennité.

 Désormais, l’Institut Gustave Courbet, grâce à l’ensemble des dons de ses bienfaiteurs et au bénévolat de ses membres, fort d’une importante collection d’œuvres de Courbet, de ses amis, de ses collaborateurs et de ses admirateurs, poursuit l’œuvre engagée, par l’organisation d’expositions itinérantes autour du Réalisme, dans les centres culturels et musées, en France et à l’étranger.

 L’Institut Courbet fait porter son effort en particulier sur la promotion nationale et internationale de l’œuvre du Maitre du Réalisme en lien et avec le soutien éventuel du département du Doubs, par l’organisation d’expositions itinérantes, par l’édition de bulletins et catalogues et par l’organisation d’actions culturelles et pédagogiques  – notamment la Semaine des copistes.

In the country of Courbet – in the beautiful city of Ornans, near the famous Source de la Loue in front of the house where the painter was born on june 10^th 1819 at the edge of the river – the Gustave Courbet Institut pursues his actions of promotion of the artistic and cultural heritage of Master of the Realism.

 The Gustave Courbet Institut is the heir of the Association of Friends of Courbet (created in 1938 by the Franche-Comte painter Robert Fernier) which acquired the native house and opened the Museum in 1969, which it gave to the Departement of the Doubs in 1977, in order to assure the perpetuity.

 Henceforth, the Gustave Courbet Institute, thanks to all the donations of their benefactors and to the voluntary work of their members, with an important collection of works of Courbet, their friends, their collaborators and their admirers, pursues the work started by the organisation of itinerant exhibitions around the Realism, in cultural centers and museums, in France and abroad.

 The Courbet Institut makes concern its effort in particular in national and international promotion of the works of Master of the Realism in link and with the possible support of the department of Doubs by the organisation of itinerant exhibition, by the edition of bulletins and catalog and by the organization of cultural and education actions –in particular the week of the copyists.
